Cosmetology Coordinator

Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening of Cosmetology Coordinator.

The position serves as the faculty/coordinator for the Cosmetology Program with responsibilities for ensuring that the cosmetology program provides instruction in accordance with approved state curriculum guidelines and standards required by state regulations and national accreditation standards.

Responsibilities include teaching, curriculum review, student assessment, budget formation/control/expenditures, and supervision and training of part-time teaching and administrative/support staff.

Essential Functions:

To provide quality administration, management and supervision for the Cosmetology Program to assure successful implementation.

Responsible for day-to-day management including timely completion of the day-to-day administrative and instructional processes.

Coordinate the development and revision of curriculum; develops and schedules new course offerings and provides input on program expansion.

Facilitate the coordination of instructors, evaluation of faculty and personnel hired for programs and activities.

Coordinate with Marketing Division and other program directors, the production of the fall, spring and summer course brochures including design, development, and distribution. Assist in the development of marketing strategies for promotional and instructional materials including email, print advertising and press releases.

Teach courses as assigned within faculty workload guidelines including evening and weekend offerings.

Reviews and updates syllabus, lectures, and required technologies in accordance to departmental, state and national accreditation standards.

Assist in recruiting/ hiring of part time instructors.

Provides supervision within the program.

Assist in the development of program goals and objectives.

Handles development and coordination of advisory committee meetings.

Maintain any records required by state.

Complete or assist with program reports, including but not limited to an annual program review, outcomes assessment, and advanced planning document.

Ensure proper safety in classroom.

Participates in program outreach/ recruitment to secondary schools and general public.

Assist in establishing, implementing and analyzing assessment of student learning data to make program improvements as indicated.

Ensure that all students have clear understanding of program requirements and current Cosmetology students have effective progression in program.

Ensure that NJ state board regulatory processes are followed and that the programs remain in good standing with all NJ State polices for cosmetology.

Other duties as assigned.


  • Licensed Cosmetologist having graduated from an accredited cosmetology program. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Three years administrative experience in support of implementing, and evaluating cosmetology instructional programs.
  • College, vocational or proprietary school teaching experience required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills required with strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, multiple deadlines.
  • Flexibility with schedule to cover evening and weekend programs as necessary.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the College's mission of service to the community.
